Quartz adds three to its editorial staff

QuartzQuartz editor in chief Kevin Delaney sent out the following staff announcement:

I’m very happy to announce that three talented journalists are joining Quartz’s editorial staff.

Jackie Bischof will be deputy Talent Lab editor, based in New York, starting Jan. 4. Jackie will work closely with Xana to launch our Talent Lab, a new initiative to continuously, actively identify exceptional journalists wherever they are in the world and bring their writing to Quartz, as well as help further develop our in-house talent. Jackie joins us from Newsweek, where she is digital editor, managing their editorial efforts online. She was earlier a reporter and producer for the Wall Street Journal in New York and Johannesburg, and worked on Thomson Reuters’ digital editorial team in South Africa. Jackie has a master’s in journalism from Columbia and a bachelor’s from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She speaks German and Afrikaans. Follow her @JaxBischof

Chase Purdy joins our team in New York as a reporter covering consumer goods and retail/ecommerce, starting Dec. 14. Chase has been a reporter at Politico, doing impressive journalism on the agriculture beat. He had earlier been a reporter for the Roanoke Times, the Ledger, and the News Virginian, and a stringer for the New York Times. Chase has a bachelor’s in English from Hillsdale College. Joon Ian Wong joins our London bureau as Europe technology correspondent, starting Dec. 14. Joon has been a reporter and organizer of conferences at CoinDesk in London, where he has written on the bitcoin/blockchain economy. He was previously a freelancer for Londonist, Skift, and Al Jazeera English, media and events director at startup publisher e27 in Singapore, and deputy editor for the China Economic Review in Shanghai. Joon has a master’s in interactive media from Goldsmiths College, University of London, and a bachelor’s from New York University. He speaks Bahasa Malaysia and some Mandarin. Follow him @joonian
