Protocol hires Cox as editor on policy team

Tech news site Protocol has hired Kate Cox as an editor on its policy team.

She will be leaving Ars Technica, where she is a tech policy reporter, at the end of the month.

Cox entered journalism in 2011 as a freelance writer and blogger covering video games and game culture. She joined Consumerist in late 2013, where she covered tech policy, privacy, healthcare, and other consumer issues.

Following Consumerist’s closing in 2017, she joined CQ Roll Call to report on mergers and antitrust issues before coming to Ars Technica to cover tech policy in 2019.

She grew up in the Boston area, earned a BA in history from UMass – Amherst and an MFA in film studies from Boston University before landing in metro Washington in 2008.
