Pratt joins WSJ as education bureau chief

Emily Nelson, U.S. coverage chief at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Friday:

I am thrilled to announce that Chastity Pratt has joined The Wall Street Journal as our new Education Bureau Chief.

Chastity brings extensive experience breaking policy-changing education stories at a time of historic upheaval in schooling in America. She will lead a talented group of reporters and direct our coverage across all platforms.

We’re excited to have Chastity’s ability to develop high-impact stories on the U.S. News leadership team. Her experience and commitment to developing new audiences will help us in our goals of expanding the reach of the Journal. She will work with the Noted team in the initiative to feature new, younger voices. As the nation is reimagining schools, coverage of education and the issues it shapes is more important and compelling than ever.

Chastity joins the Journal after a year spent studying education funding as a fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard. She was part of a nonprofit news leadership team that designed a multiplatform newsroom called Bridge Detroit, and was urban affairs reporter at Bridge Magazine.

Chastity has covered education at the Detroit Free Press, Newsday and The Oregonian. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and native of Detroit where she lives with her son and daughter.
