Alfred Ng

Politico managing editor Clea Benson sent out the following on Thursday:

We’re pleased to welcome Alfred Ng to POLITICO, where he’ll join our technology team to cover the politics and policy battles around data privacy — from the ways companies profit from consumers’ information, to the wrangling in Congress over how to rein them in, to the concerns about Americans’ data being sold to other governments.

Alfred has covered everything from the largely unregulated market for cellphone location data to how Amazon helped police build a surveillance network with Ring doorbells. He joins us from The Markup, where he was an enterprise reporter writing about privacy, security and tech policy. Previously, he covered cybersecurity and politics at CNET, where he also hosted a daily podcast. He began his professional journalism career as an engagement editor and freelance reporter at the New York Daily News and holds a journalism degree from Syracuse.

Alfred is based in Brooklyn. When he’s not on the beat, he fantasizes about being a competitive breakdancer and Super Smash Brothers pro. He welcomes recommendations for spicy food and thrift stores.

Alfred starts on June 28. Please join us in welcoming him to POLITICO.
