Politico hires Bermel to cover California energy

Colby Bermel

Colby Bermel has been hired by Politico Pro to cover the California energy beat.

His first day is Jan. 2.

Bermel previously was a reporter for S&P Global in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he covered the business and politics of energy in the southeast United States.

He wrote about the operations and finances of regulated electric utilities to tell readers how companies’ decisions and outside developments affect our shared energy-environmental future.

He previously was a reporting fellow at E&E News in Washington, DC, where he covered public health and a host of other topics.

He graduated in May 2016 from Principia College with degrees in political science and mass communication.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
