Politico editor in chief Carrie Budoff Brown and editor at large Peter Canellos sent out the following announcement:
Hi all –
We’re excited to announce that Michael Calderone, one of the best known and most respected media writers in the business, is joining POLITICO – rejoining, we should note – to be senior media writer and author of our Morning Media column. Michael has covered all of the top media stories of the last decade, first for The New York Observer, then POLITICO and since 2011 at The Huffington Post.
At POLITICO, he kept his finger on the pulse of the media’s handling of the first years of the Obama presidency while chronicling the financial struggles and downsizing of some of legendary brands; at The Huffington Post he won a National Press Club award for his memorable dissection of a “60 Minutes” report on the Benghazi attacks. He’s also an adjunct professor of journalism at New York University, from which he received his own master’s degree in journalism after graduating from Rutgers University. Throughout his career, he’s earned a reputation as both a shrewd observer of the media scene and a fair-minded, trustworthy reporter.
In his return to POLITICO, Michael brings not only his sources throughout the industry and ability to break important news, but a commitment to maintain the excellence of our Morning Media newsletter and take it to new heights. Michael will ensure that Morning Media remains a source of fresh scoops and analysis for the most sophisticated media consumers; he will also help us build out the brand with more live events and video.
He will be starting at POLITICO on September 19 and take over the newsletter the following week. Please join us in welcoming Michael back to his POLITICO home.
