Michael Sadowski of the Pocono Record in Pennsylvania writes about how the Pocono Business Journal has been reborn by a new owner as an online-only publication.
Sadowski writes, “When the operation ceased in February, East Stroudsburg businessman Jason Trump decided to buy it and start over — without the paper. The PBJ is now a completely online operation catering to local business news.
“‘We’ve been welcomed in with open arms,’ Trump, 36, said of his all-online outlet. ‘I was surprised, actually. We were expecting there would be some people who were skeptical. But it hasn’t happened.’
“So far, Trump said, it’s been a success. The overhead of costly newsprint is gone, and the publication does have some advertisers.
“The online format is supplemented with social networking sites that help drive traffic to the site. That’s helped lead to about 200,000 website visits in May, its first full month of operation, according to Trump.
“‘I think that’s pretty amazing, considering two months before everyone thought the PBJ was dead,’ he said. Trump has been involved with Pocono Business Journal since it started publishing in 2005, contracted as the layout designer for the print version.”
