“Planet Money” hires senior editor from Bloomberg Businessweek

Neal Carruth, the supervising senior editor for the business desk at National Public Radio, sent out the following announcement:

Hi folks:

Planet Money is delighted to announce the arrival of Bryant Urstadt as our new senior editor. Bryant joins the team from Bloomberg Businessweek, where he was a top features editor. While there, he helped the magazine change its image and shaped some of the most entertaining and memorable journalism we have read. He worked with many of the best writers at Bloomberg, including Joshua Green, Megan McArdle and Brad Stone. Bryant is blessed with great long-form editing skills and a sharp mind for making business and economics stories engaging to a general audience. He brought those talents to pieces like an adaptation of Ashlee Vance’s recent biography of Elon Musk as well as Paul Ford’s magnificent issue-length essay What is Code? Ford says Bryant is a “brilliant editor.” He adds: “He loves writers and he’s got what everyone calls ‘a great ear,’ and I can’t wait to hear—actually hear! with my own ears!—what he’ll do at Planet Money.” Bryan’s former boss at Bloomberg Businessweek, Josh Tyrangiel (who is now the top news editor at Vice), told us, “Bryant is an extraordinary editor who understands that the best stories about money are really about people.”

Bryant’s first day with Planet Money is Monday. Please join us in welcoming him to the team.
