Parsons is leaving Reuters

Claudia Parsons, a deputy top news editor at Reuters, is leaving the news organization.

I am sorry (for us, at least) to announce that Claudia Parsons will be leaving Reuters at the end of this week so that she can spend time writing the great American – or perhaps it will be Scottish – novel.  Claudia spent two stints on the top news team as a top news editor and as head of top news desking, and before that she was critical in establishing our first enterprise team. Claudia has been a fine reporter and editor here for 16 years, working in Spain, Italy, Turkey, the Gulf and Iraq as well as on the World Desk in London and in the New York general news team.  Whether it is writing wraps on the shutdown crisis, working through the night on a major hurricane, or writing a feature about one of the world’s top experts in Latin,  Claudia’s talents have often made a major contribution to the file. I know she has also been a friend and guide to many people here and to young aspiring writers outside. Drinks are next Wednesday, Oct 23 – venue to be announced.

Parsons joined Reuters as a graduate trainee in London in 1997 and worked in Spain, Italy, Turkey, Iraq and the United States during her 16 years with Reuters. Her reporting covered subjects ranging from the Monaco Grand Prix to the war in Afghanistan, the Oscars to the U.S. presidential elections. As deputy enterprise editor in 2011, she helped launch investigative reporting at Reuters with Jim Impoco. Among her editing credits are a story on shell companies that won several awards including a Loeb, and a major multimedia package on frontier markets that won a SABEW award.

In an email to Talking Biz News, Parsons wrote, “It’s been a great 16 years, but I’m looking forward to trying something new.”
