Overseas Press Club of America names Bloomberg’s Dwyer president

Paula Dwyer, senior editor at Bloomberg News has been named the new president of Overseas Press Club of America, an 81-year-old organization that awards highly coveted prizes devoted to international news coverage for an American audience.

At Bloomberg, Dwyer works with the company’s New York editing hub focusing on business, finance and economic policy. Previously, she held the post of London bureau chief for Businessweek and was Washington economics editor for The New York Times.

During her time at Businessweek, Dwyer shared an OPC award for coverage of globalization in the 1990s. She was also a 2012 Pulitzer finalist for editorials on Europe’s debt crisis as an opinion writer for Bloomberg.

Additionally, Dwyer is the co-author of “Take on the Street,” a New York Times bestseller, with former SEC Chairman Arthur Levitt.

“In the coming years, it will be crucial for journalism organizations to stand up for our profession in the face of financial hardships and attacks on our integrity,” Dwyer said. “It will also be important to help guide the next generation of journalists as they take the baton and carry on the free-press mission worldwide.”

Other results announced were as follows:

  • Azmat Khan, contributing writer at The New York Times Magazine; Douglas Jehl, foreign editor of The Washington Post; and Scott Kraft, managing editor of the Los Angeles Times, were elected vice presidents
  • Deborah Amos of NPR is treasurer
  • Josh Fine of HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel is secretary

  • Albert Goldson, an independent commentator
  • Marjorie Miller of The Associated Press
  • Adriane Quinlan of Vice News Tonight
  • Peter Spiegel of the Financial Times
  • Liam Stack and Sandra Stevenson of The New York Times
  • Marina Guevara Walker of the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting
  • Vivienne Walt of TIME and Fortune
  • Michael Williams of Reuters
