OC Register names new business editor

Samantha Gowen, an assistant business editor, has been named business editor of the Orange County Register.

She replaces Bernard Wolfson, who left the paper to become a senior editor at Kaiser Health News.

Gowen has been with the paper since October 2000, starting out as a copy editor. She was also a page designer, pets reporter and editor, and trending reporter. She joined the business desk in August 2012 as a business presentation editor. She became assistant business editor in February 2014.

Before joining the Register, Gowen was at the Palm Beach Post at the Progress-Index in Petersburg, Virginia.

Gowen is a UNC-Chapel Hill graduate.

Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
