The Orange County Register, which launches a standalone business section on Monday, has hired a new business editor, Donna Wares.
Wares will start on Oct. 8.
She is currently a contributing editor and writer for NBCNews.com. From November 2009 to June, she was managing editor at Entrepreneur Media, where she launched and ran the online division, SecondAct.com, a publication that helps readers navigate midlife reinvention and careers change.
Before that, Wares was a lecturer in the journalism department at Cal State-Long Beach for eight years.
She also spent eight years at the Los Angeles Times, where she was national weekend editor, planning weekend coverage and supervising the newspaper’s correspondents in New York, Boston, Miami, Washington, D.C., Houston, and Denver on breaking news, enterprise and in-depth stories. Previously, she was an editor on the Times state desk and deputy city editor for the Orange County edition.
Wares also worked from 1986 to 1993 for the Register in various positions, including legal affairs editor, weekend editor, investigative projects reporter, criminal courts reporter and police reporter.
