Observer hires Quartz’s Staley as senior business editor
Oliver Staley of Quartz has been hired by The Observer to be its senior business editor.
Staley hosted a member conference calls for Quartz. He has done ambitious reporting, most notably in his ongoing work on stroke, which has in part been funded by a Pulitzer Center grant (and which took him to Zambia on a reporting trip), and in other deeply reported features on topics ranging from Six Sigma to learning to hunt.
His collaboration with Amanda Shendruk on gender disparity in the world’s orchestras has been recognized by multiple awards programs, and his own culture coverage includes topics like Storm of the X-Men, band breakups, and Stan Lee.
