NYT: Brauchli the choice of WSJ newsroom

Reporters Katherine Seelye and Richard Perez-Pena write in the New York Times that the appoinment of Marcus Brauchli as the new Wall Street Journal managing editor was greeted with enthusiasm in the newsroom.

They wrote, “People at The Journal said that Mr. Brauchli had the overwhelming backing of the newsroom as well as the support of Mr. Steiger, whose stature was enhanced this week when The Journal captured two more Pulitzer Prizes, bringing The Journal’s haul of Pulitzers to 16 during Mr. Steiger’s tenure”

Later, they added, “People close to the situation said that The Journal wanted to ensure a smooth transition in the post-Steiger era and affirm the standing of the newsroom in the corporate culture. In January 2006, Dow Jones picked Richard F. Zannino as its chief executive, the first nonjournalist to run the company in modern times.”
