New York Times business editor Ellen Pollock sent out the following announcement on Monday:
It gives us great pleasure to announce that Kevin Granville will be heading to London to help oversee our European business coverage.
Kevin has truly done it all here. He started working at The New York Times in 1997 as a combination copy editor and news designer. Since joining the Business section, he has been a copy editor, late editor, early editor, web producer and a strong desk editor. He is even the occasional writer, diving in whenever we need explainers, breaking news or a deft touch on a photo feature, like one this year on bringing the internet to the Caucus mountains.
In moments of craziness, Kevin is the type of quiet, calm force that really makes this place work. “There are few others I’d want to be in the trenches with than Kevin Granville,” says Ashwin Seshagiri. “Wherever he goes and in whatever he does, he immediately earns the respect of those around him.”
Kevin is a man of many talents. He plays the trombone and has sung at Lincoln Center, Town Hall and downtown’s Trinity Church. He was also a master gardener in the state of New Jersey, even if the main use of his skill lately is for weed pulling.
He seems to fit right into the London vibe. During a six-week stint there this year, Kevin, a foodie and a cook, found some of the better delights near the office (à la cheese at Neal’s Yard Dairy).
While we will really miss him in the New York newsroom, we couldn’t think of a better person to round out our overseas team. Kevin will start in the London office in mid-February.
