The New York Times is elevating Nancy Donaldson Gauss to the role of associate managing editor.
After leading the Times video desk, Gauss will now assume a broader strategic role in helping make visual journalism a bigger part of the company’s digital programming and storytelling.
When overlooking the video desk, Gauss has made a number of strategic moves, narrowing the desk’s focus and finding ways to invest in new initiatives.
Additionally, the team has also won an Emmy for “Your Train Is Delayed, Why?,” a collaboration with the Metro desk.
In her new role, Gauss will continue to be responsible for the video department, and she will also take on various duties including improving the video experience, developing new visual story formats, shaping robust programming for visual stories and working with the Audience teams to sharpen off-platform strategies.
Previously, Gauss worked at CNN and The Washington Post as a senior producer and senior multimedia journalist, respectively.
Gauss is a B.A. in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
