NY Times launches virtual climate solutions event “Netting Zero”

The New York Times has launched “Netting Zero,” a free virtual event series which will feature Times’ journalists and leading climate experts challenge business and industry figures to identify tangible climate solutions.

The series will run from July and lead up to the publication’s “Climate Hub,” a ten-day event featuring live journalism, thought leadership, and action on climate change.

“Netting Zero” will have speakers debate changes required from private enterprise and government sectors including city planning, investment, infrastructure, food, and energy in order to meet the climate challenge of reaching net-zero carbon emissions.

The series will also focus on exploring solutions to climate change and the impact the pandemic has had on the ways in which we address climatic challenges.

In the first event of the series, (took place on June 9) “Applying Covid-19’s Hard-Earned Lessons to Climate Change”, New York Times climate editor Hannah Fairfield moderated “as speakers including Jean-Paul Agon, CEO of L’Oreal, Christiana Figueres, former executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and Nigel Topping, U.K. High-Level Climate Action Champion for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), explain the ways in which companies, governments, central banks, and societies have adapted to combat coronavirus, and in doing so, have created a blueprint for tackling climate change.”
