NY Times hires FT’s Grovum as social media editor

Jake Grovum

Millie Tran, the global growth editor at The New York Times, sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

Please join us in welcoming Jake Grovum to The Times. He’ll be joining as a social editor on the Off-Platform team.

Jake comes to us from The Financial Times, where after leading the social media team for a year, he was promoted to be The F.T.’s first United States head of audience engagement. During his time working on social media at The Financial Times, he overhauled its Instagram presence and helped develop new storytelling formats for the organization. Prior to joining The F.T., Jake worked as a senior staff writer and social media editor for Stateline.org at the Pew Charitable Trusts in Washington, covering national trends in state policy and politics.

He’s passionate about presenting journalism in the best and most engaging way possible, bringing together data and news judgment and finding human ways to tell stories, whether that’s breaking news or a big investigation. His favorite social platform of all time is Vine. (He’s still mourning its early demise.)

Jake began his career in Minnesota, reporting on the state legislature for Politics in Minnesota. He’s an alumnus of the National Press Foundation Paul Miller Fellowship and the Pulliam Fellowship, and earned his degree at the University of Minnesota.

Jake starts today, June 18.
