NY Times hires Das as finance editor

Anupreeta Das

New York Times business editor Ellen Pollock sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

We’re thrilled to announce that Anupreeta Das has joined us as finance editor.

Preeta spent 10 years at The Wall Street Journal, most recently as deputy business editor.  In that role she helped supervise a wide swath of business and technology coverage, shaping daily news and enterprise.  Among the stories she was closely involved in were WeWork, the US-China trade war, Huawei, Fiat Chrysler and Amazon’s search for a second headquarters, which won a Loeb award last year.

Prior to that, Preeta was a reporter on the Journal’s enterprise team. She worked on a series on family offices, the secretive and unregulated entities set up to invest the money of billionaires, including Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and finance executives. Preeta has written about Wall Street and the 2016 election, Warren Buffett and covered mergers and acquisitions. For a time, her editor was David Enrich. So she may be able to answer some of our many questions…….

Preeta grew up in India and went to school there, in the U.S. and the U.K. She has lived in more cities that you have and has been in New York for the past 13 years. She speaks three Indian languages and has studied Mandarin, but would rather not be quizzed on it.

Last fall, Preeta climbed 157,631 steps to get to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, without looking at the scenery. Her priority as she climbed (883 floors) can delightfully be found here.

In her spare time, Preeta likes to cook, hike and pet other people’s dogs.

Please welcome Preeta!
