The New York Times has hired Bloomberg News reporter Jeanna Smialek to cover the Federal Reserve Board and the U.S. economy.
Smialek, who has been in Bloomberg’s New York bureau, will move back to Washington in her new job.
She has been at Bloomberg since January 2013 and previously interned for Bloomberg in 2012.
“During the past four years, Jeanna has been a big part of why our Fed coverage has stayed the best in the business,” said Bloomberg US economics managing editor Brendan Murray in a note to the staff. “She’s also established herself as one of the best labor-market reporters anywhere.”
Smialek thanked her colleagues in a farewell email.
“You all let me spend a weekend hanging out with a nun in West Virginia, sent me to ride along with a police heroin unit in Ohio, and indulged my love of wonky news by letting me write NI ECOROUNDUP for three years,” wrote Smialek. “I’ve learned so much from working with such a curious and talented group of people.”
Smialek is a UNC-Chapel Hill graduate and is currently attending New York University for her MBA as a part-time student.
