NY Times biz reporter Lee named to new standards team

Edmund Lee

New York Times business reporter Edmund Lee has been named to a new team that will take on the challenge of developing innovative ways of deepening its audience’s trust in the newspaper’s mission and in its journalism.

A note sent out to the staff states:

Throughout his career, Ed Lee has been an astute chronicler of the profound digital transformation that has been occurring across the news and entertainment industries. He joins the team after doing compelling coverage of these changes as a media reporter on the Business desk.

He was part of teams that won awards and praise for reporting on Les Moonves’s ignominious exit as head of CBS and on the AT&T-Time Warner merger. He also broke big stories about digital upstarts like BuzzFeed and industry heavyweights like Vogue.

Before joining The Times, Ed was managing editor at Vox Media’s Recode, where he oversaw a group of editors and reporters, and a reporter at Bloomberg News, Advertising Age and The Village Voice.

In between, he has worked as a screenwriter, and in 2007 his original film “West 32nd” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

“Ed has distinguished himself with his behind-the-scenes coverage of big institutions,  including The Wall Street Journal and Condé Nast,” said Ellen Pollock, The Times’s business editor. “We will miss his insight and reporting chops.”
