New York Times business editor Ellen Pollock sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

We are delighted to announce that Kashmir Hill, one of the most compelling and distinct writers on technology today, will be joining The Times as an enterprise reporter in Business.

Kashmir has long captured the unexpected and sometimes ominous ways technology is changing our lives. She describes her beat as “the looming tech dystopia and how we can try to avoid it.”

She broke into journalism as a blogger, writing about legal news at Above The Law. She then studied magazine journalism at New York University and began to focus on issues surrounding privacy, eventually starting a blog called The Not-So Private Parts. She later took her blog to Forbes magazine, where she worked as a writer and editor for four years.

In 2014, she joined Fusion, serving as the editor of its technology vertical Real Future, and helping to run its live journalism events. When Fusion merged with Gizmodo Media Group, she joined a newly formed investigative journalism team there called the Special Projects Desk.

Please join us in welcoming her to The Times.
