NY CPAs seeks entries for financial journalism competition

The New York State Society of CPAs has issued its call for entries for the 2015 Excellence in Financial Journalism Competition, www.efjawards.com.

The awards — now in their 32nd year – were created to raise awareness and exposure to the best of business journalism.

All entries must be received by 11 p.m. EST on Feb. 28, 2015 via online submission. Entry fees are $75 for the first entry and $50 for each subsequent entry. To be eligible for consideration, all work must have been published, or aired, between Jan. 1, 2014 and Dec. 31, 2014.

There are 10 categories for broadcast, print, online and book entries:

  • Commentary/Opinion
  • Investigative
  • Business Beat Reporting
  • Personal Finance
  • Explanatory
  • Independent or Affiliated Online Story – Large Media: circulation or daily online visitors of more than 200,000
  • Independent or Affiliated Online Story – Medium to Small Media: circulation or daily online visitors of less than 200,000
  • Radio/Online Digital Audio
  • Television/Online Digital Video
  • Book
Chris Roush

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
