NPR seeks deputy national biz editor

National Public Radio is seeking a deputy national business editor to run the operational and editorial responsibilities for business and economics coverage from NPR’s National Desk.

The deputy national editor supervises assignments and provides editorial guidance to a team of business reporters, correspondents and editors across the country.

The position also advises NPR shows, including “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered,” and coordinates closely with the “Planet Money” team. This includes preparation of air material and overseeing the editorial integrity and quality of content, monitoring and evaluating staff performance; recommending new hires and providing editorial and administrative support to the senior national editor.

NPR is seeking someone with at least 10 years’ experience as a news reporter or editor, including demonstrated experience covering business and economics, including: investigative stories, including the generation of story ideas and the research and development of such stories, and feature reports, including the development of topics and the organization and presentation of lengthy articles or programs.

It also wants someone with considerable knowledge of business and economics and national affairs, including, but not limited to: the stock markets, key industries, technology and manufacturing, and regional politics and issues.
