NPR hires Liberto as deputy biz editor

National Public Radio business editor Pallavi Gogoi sent out the following message:

I am thrilled to announce that we have hired Jennifer Liberto as NPR’s Deputy Business Editor. Jen comes to us from Weekend All Things Considered, where she leads the program as its Acting Executive Producer.

She runs the show, taking care of programming, editorial assignments, writing and editing radio pieces, working with host Michel Martin and also coordinating coverage with various desks. Prior to this, Jen was senior editor and second-in-command of the weekend show. During her time working with Michel Martin, WATC has seen some of the largest audience gains in its history.

Before NPR, Jen worked at Politico as an associate editor and senior financial reporter. She also worked at CNN Money, where she covered the financial crisis from Washington. In the past, she has worked for The St. Petersburg Times, the Arkansas Democrat-GazetteThe Miami Herald and Mother Jones.

In her new position, Jen will report to Chief Business Editor Pallavi Gogoi.

She joins the Business Desk April 2

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
