North Carolina paper adjusts business coverage

Katie Wadington, the editor of the Asheville Citizen-Times in North Carolina, writes about changes to the paper’s business coverage.

Wadington writes, “Since joining the Citizen-Times in spring 2015, Emily Patrick has covered our entertainment and business beats. Now, she’ll shift over from business to keep an eye on Buncombe County. She’ll cover Board of Commissioners meetings, county boards and be your county government watchdog. Like Burgess, Patrick will get out into the county, to Weaverville and Candler and Arden and more, to report on life throughout Buncombe.

“Because growth and development are so intertwined with government boards and elected officials, Burgess and Patrick will report on those areas in their respective beats.

“In shifting Patrick to county, we’ve had to refocus our business coverage.

Mike Cronin, who has been covering growth and economy in WNC, will focus less on development. He’ll turn his coverage to the region’s homegrown businesses, big and small; its entrepreneurs; its technology and its emerging economic issues.

“Burgess has done solid work in covering city and county. These changes will allow us to build on his government watchdog coverage, and, equally important, will give us more depth in reporting on life in the city and county.”
