Margarita Noriega, the editor in charge of Reuters Live News, is leaving the news organization for a position at American Public Media’s “Marketplace” radio show.
“My new position is as Digital Editor and Blogger for Marketplace, based in New York,” said Noriega in an email to Talking Biz News. “I will be using some of my social media editor and live blogger skills I gained here at Reuters to revamp the Marketplace newsletter and dive deeper into understanding the connection between Marketplace’s incredibly high-quality content and helping them shine online. This will include original online pieces as well as mixing up their audio content with a fresh look for social media.
“Marketplace has an incredibly loyal following, and I’m excited to join their team.”
She will start Feb. 3 and work in Los Angeles for the first week, according to an email from Marketplace senior digital editor Ethan Lindsey. “Immediately, Margarita will bolster our efforts in social media and audience engagement,” said Lindsey.
At Reuters, Noriega oversaw and managed the production and editing of live blogs across Reuters.com and mobile sites and apps. She also helped develop and refine guidelines for live blogs and be the main liaison to the newsroom in organizing live-blog responses to breaking news events.
In addition, Noriega was the newsroom’s social media point person, overseeing its accounts on Twitter, Facebook and other social platforms.
Noriega, who was also community editor at Reuters, also helped the newsroom innovate new ways of using social media to spread Reuters journalism, interact with its audience and collect news, images and video for digital platforms.
She is a George Washington University graduate.
