NJBiz editor Bergeron leaves to start new publication

Tom Bergeron, the editor of NJBiz, has left the business news publication to start a new one.

Bergeron is one of the cofounders of  ROI-NJ.com, which aims to become the authoritative source for news and connections impacting New Jersey’s economic movers and shakers.

The site will go live on Sept. 12. The first weekly print edition is set for Oct. 9.

Bergeron will be its editor and chief content officer. The publication’s editorial focus includes large and small business, politics, news, economic development, life in New Jersey, diversity and inclusion, non-profits and corporate culture.

The new publication will be owned by Prospect Publishing Group, an investment company owned and managed by Amy Allan Smith that focuses on opportunities that enhance the economic strength of New Jersey and provide opportunities for its business community.

Bergeron had been at NJBiz, purchased by BridgeTower Media in April 2016, as editor since June 2013. Earlier this year, he was also named director of product development for BridgeTower.

Before joining NJBiz, Bergeron was senior director of business development for iHigh.com, the nation’s top live-streaming provider, into the crowded New Jersey/New York high school market.

He also spent three years as an assistant managing editor at Yahoo, where he helped transform RivalsHigh, Yahoo’s high school sports site, into the industry leader by refocusing its editorial content and reorganizing its distribution to greatly increase its unique visitors.
