The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism has named nine Knight-Bagehot fellows in economics and business journalism for the 2010-2011 academic year.
The fellows receive full tuition and a living stipend of $50,000 for the year. The program is open to journalists with at least four years of experience.
The fellows are:
Peter Beller, who joined Forbes in 2006 and now reports from Los Angeles, where he covers the West Coast. He interned briefly for Dow Jones Marketwatch, where he assisted Marshall Loeb with his weekly personal finance column.
Christian Berthelson, associate editor of the Los Angeles Daily Journal, where he oversess coverage of business-related law beats. He previously was a staff writer for the Los Angeles Times.
Drew DeSilver, a business reporter for the Seattle Times, where he covers the banking industry. He was also a reporter for The Register-Guard in Eugene, Oreg.
Jennifer Haley, a producer and personal finance reporter for CNN America, where she writes daily news articles and produces business segments and breaking news for CNN and CNN International.
Renae Merle, a staff reporter for the Washington Post, where she reported on the financial and mortgage crises. She also worked in the Chicago bureau of The Wall Street Journal.
Alexander Osipovich, a reporter for Agence France-Press in Moscow, where he covers the oil and gas industries and the impact of the global financial crisis on the former Soviet Union.
Matthew Phillips, a senior reporter for Newsweek, where he covers business and finance. He launched the global business page Business Matters in 2006 and now edits it.
Seth Stevenson, a contributing writer for Slate, where he writes on business, sports and pop culture.
