Maddie Hanna of the Concord Monitor reports that New Hampshire Public Radio laid off four staff people, including business reporter David Darman.
Hanna writes, “Darman, who started at NHPR in 1993 as a part-timer, was one of five full-time reporters at the station and its only full-time business reporter. He learned he’d been laid off Wednesday morning.
“‘Well, it was a shock to me,’ he said yesterday. ‘Everybody knows the economy’s bad, and the station’s not immune to that. But it was a shock to me.’
“The station’s news director, Mark Bevis, said Darman’s layoff came as a ‘bit of a surprise.’ He said Executive Editor Jon Greenberg, who’s been covering the economy through the station’s ‘Working It Out’ project, will take on more business reporting responsibilities.
“‘We’ll just continue doing what we can, fill in the gaps as we have to,’ he said.”
