New York biz reporter joins Florida paper as opinion writer

March 7, 2011

Jim Stinson, a business reporter at the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle in New York, has joined the Daytona Beach News-Journal as an editorial writer.

Opinion page editor Mac Thrower writes, “Jim was a business reporter for the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, where he covered various beats, including utilities, energy and commercial real estate. Before he moved to New York, Jim worked in another corner of what singer John Prine called ‘the land of the wind-chill factor.’ He covered business issues and the Indiana Legislature for The Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana.

“Jim was happy to come to a place where frost is front-page news. And he didn’t experience culture shock when he saw cars on the beach and heard the roar of high-performance engines during Speed Weeks. Jim spent some of his formative years in Ormond Beach and Holly Hill, so he knows something about the area and its people.

“With his experience in journalism and his affinity for this region, Jim is well equipped to help us provide more commentary on local, state and national issues. In the coming months, readers will find more and more editorials under ‘Our View.'”
