New reporter hired at CNBC

Brian Shactman is joining business news network CNBC as a general assignment reporter, according to a release.

“CNBC welcomes Brian to the business news team,” said Jonathan Wald, senior vice president of business news. “His experience anchoring the morning news at WVIT-TV combined with his work at ESPN make him a solid addition to CNBC.”

Prior to joining CNBC, Shactman anchored “NBC 30 News Today” at WVIT-TV NBC 30 in Hartford. Before assuming full-time anchor duties, he was a reporter and sports anchor at the station.

From 1998-2002, Shactman held various positions at ESPN including analyst work on ESPNews, SportsCenter and ESPN Radio. He also wrote, edited and produced content for ESPN.com. For the past five years, Shactman has remained active at ESPN, hosting a variety of national radio programs at ESPNRadio.

Shactman has a Master of Arts degree in English literature from Clark University in Worcester, Mass., and a bachelor’s degree in English and history from Amherst College in Amherst, Mass.

He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
