New Report for America corps include 16 business reporters

Report for America announced Thursday the selection of 225 journalists for its 2020 reporting corps. The new cohort will be placed with more than 160 local news organizations across 46 states, Washington, D.C.,  and Puerto Rico.

The following journalists will be covering business-related topics:

Mara Abbott, Buffalo Bulletin, energy production industry in Johnson County.

Kate Hidalgo Bellows, The Island Packet, Hilton Head’s working class.

Katie Brown, Pine Tree Watch, Energy and environment.

Michael Butler, Technical.ly, Winners and losers in the tech economy in Philadelphia

Lana Cohen, The Mendocino Voice, The effect of environmental regulation on salmon runs, wild fires, the economy and other issues.

Kristina Karisch, The Modesto Bee, Economic development, and its impacts, in Stanislaus County and the Northern San Joaquin Valley

Sophie Kasakove, The News & Observer, Economic impacts of the coronavirus crisis

Sara Cline, Associated Press–OR, Oregon state legislature, with special focus on the tech boom and the crisis in housing affordability.

Ricky Rodas, Berkeleyside, Immigrant businesses in Oakland.

Douglas Soule, The Report for West Virginia Project, In-depth business and economy coverage as part of a new Enterprise Hub.

Nushrat Rahman, Detroit Free Press, Economic mobility in Detroit

Report for America is a national service program that places journalists into local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities through its reporting corps. It is an initiative of the nonprofit news organization, The GroundTruth Project.
