New hires and beat changes at E&E News

E&E News has hired Christian Vasquez to its editorial team to report on cybersecurity for Energywire.

Vasquez will be covering cybersecurity news in the energy sector including threats to the nation’s power grid and oil and gas industry.

He will also contribute to E&E News’ weekly, “Cybersecurity Update” newsletter.

Before joining E&E News, Vasquez was working at Politico as a cybersecurity intern and web producer. Before that, he was with The Prospector and is also a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

Vasquez has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The University of Texas.

The company has also hired Carlos Anchondo to cover oil, gas and fossil fuel issues. Anchondo will also be covering for Energywire. Recently, Anchondo was a fellow with the publication. Before that, he was covering water and environment for the Texas Tribune.

Anchondo received a bachelor’s degree in communication and international studies and History and Spanish from Trinity University. He also holds a master’s degree in journalism from The University of Texas.

The third hire is Francis Chung who has joined the team as its first on-staff photographer. He was hired following a successful fellowship where his photos helped elevate reporting on key news stories.

Apart from these hires, E&E also saw some beat changes:

Kelsey Brugger has moved to Greenwire and E&E Daily to cover federal regulations. Her move came after Niina Farah switched to Energywire to cover legal issues in the energy sector.

Brugger was previously an intern and news reporter at Santa Barbara Independent.

Brugger holds a bachelor’s degree in History of public policy and professional writing from the University of California.

Meanwhile, Niina Farah was previously with Enviornment and Energy Publishing as a climate reporting fellow. Farah is a B.S. in annual sciences journalism from the University of Massachusetts. She also holds a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.

Mark Matthews has taken on the role of deputy editor at Climatewire with Adam Aton taking over Matthew’s previous role as climate politics reporter.

Before joining E&E News, Matthews was a Washington correspondent for the Orlando Sentinel and The Denver Post. While Adam Aton was previously an intern and before that a reporter at The Associated Press.

He was also a reporter for Columbia Missourian.

Aton received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
