Michael McCord, business editor of the Portsmouth Herald newspaper in New Hampshire since 2004, is leaving that post to become opinion page editor and a senior writer, according to a short note at the end of his Sunday column.
McCord wrote, “Out in the Limb is being retired. I will be relinquishing my business editor post for other editing and writing duties for Herald Sunday and the Portsmouth Herald. This column has run for more than two years and has drawn its fair share of reader response — pro, con and otherwise. And for that I am grateful for the chance to share, entertain, enrage and, I hope, if only occasionally, enlighten.”

Although he works for a small paper, McCord has been one of the most enjoyable business journalists to read in the past couple of years. His column is always filled with sarcasm and humor.
For example, I wrote in March 2006 about McCord’s column on the SEC subpoenas of business journalists.
McCord stated, “It’s time for me to clear my conscience with the betting, ah investing, public, my journalistic peers and, most importantly as my legal counsel has suggested to square things with the SEC (in case you missed the reference in the first paragraph, I did mention ‘good guys’ in the same breath with SEC.)â€?
