New executives named to manage Fox Business

Fox Business Network promoted two executives on Thursday to manage the seven-year-old business news network.

Bill Shine, 51, has been promoted to senior executive vice president of programming for Fox News and has added responsibilities for Fox Business Network  programming. Current Fox Business senior vice president of operations, Brian Jones, 54, has been promoted to executive vice president, news operations.

“Bill’s leadership and creative programming acumen has been very important to the success of Fox News. As we continue to innovate and grow as a news organization, it’s only natural that we utilize his talents for Fox Business Network to create a more efficient and cohesive flow across all the Fox News brands,” said Roger Ailes, CEO of Fox News and Fox Business, who runs both networks, in a statement.

Kevin Magee, executive vice president of Fox Business Network, announced last month that he was leaving.

Shine will continue reporting directly to Ailes and will manage all programming for Fox News and Fox Business. Jones will assume additional day-to-day responsibilities for all Fox Business news operations, reporting directly to Shine.

“The unparalleled programming vision of Roger Ailes has made Fox News the top channel in television news for well over a decade,” said Shine in a statement. “I’m excited to take on this new role, working for Roger as he continues to build Fox Business with the leading talent in the financial news industry.”

Jones added, “I look forward to taking on this new challenge and working with Roger and Bill to develop FBN’s news operations to their fullest potential.”

An 18-year veteran of Fox News, Shine joined the company as the senior producer of “Hannity & Colmes” when the network launched in 1996. He was named network executive producer in December 2000 and was promoted to vice president, production in 2003. He continued his rise to senior vice president of programming in 2005 and was later promoted to executive vice president in the same capacity in 2009. Prior to Fox News, Shine was a producer/director at News Talk Television and began his career in production at WLIG-TV in Long Island, New York.

Jones joined Fox News in 1997 as vice president of news gathering where he was responsible for business development and later served as vice president of news Affiliates. He also served as vice president of SkyGlobal Networks for two years, where he was part of the team to purchase DirecTV for News Corp. Following that, he was named director of communications for the McGraw-Hill Companies, Information and Media Services.

He returned to Fox News in 2003 as vice president of news. He was later promoted to senior vice president of operations for Fox Business, where he managed news gathering, staffing and operations on the production side, as well as the acquisition of financial data.
