He will also be responsible for overseeing the Japanese Language Service for institutional clients, said Asia editor Paul Beckett in an announcement.
“George brings a wealth of experience both from his time at the Journal as policy editor and previously at Reuters as a deputy editor and senior correspondent,” said Beckett. “I am confident he will add tremendous value to our local language team and product offerings in Japan.”
Former Wall Street Journal Japan managing editor and Journal veteran Yumiko Ono has been promoted to the newly created role of Asia Audience Engagement Editor. In this position, Ono will be responsible for driving subscriber outreach and retention, along with attracting new audiences, to support the Journal in expanding its readership and presence across Asia.
She will relocate to Hong Kong this month.
“I’m excited and honored to lead our local language operation,” said Nishiyama, who has been with Dow Jones since 2011, in a statement. “This is a tremendous opportunity to build on the great work our team has delivered over the past five years, bringing in-depth and insightful content on topics both in and out of Japan. I look forward to expanding our footprint in Japan further with exciting new offerings and more events to further connect with readers.”
