New editor at Florida biz paper

Karen Brune Mathis, a former business columnist at the Florida Times-Union newspaper in Jacksonville, has been named the managing editor of the Financial News & Daily Record, a daily paper in the city.

Christian Conte of the Jacksonville Business Journal writes, “Mathis, who retired from the profession in November 2007 to become executive director of the non-profit organization Dreams Come True, will start her new job March 1.

“‘I had been in journalism and in newsrooms for almost 30 years and the opportunity to return to journalism was one I just couldn’t pass up,’ Mathis said in a phone interview Friday evening.

“Mathis said her duties will include managing the news flow and the news team, which includes five reporters who cover a range of business stories mostly revolving around the Downtown area. She said that although her initial focus will be on editing, she would like to get back into reporting.”
