Anna Raff, the managing editor for resources news at Dow Jones Newswires, sent out the following announcement to the staff on Tuesday:

I’m pleased to announce that Paul Rekoff, a long-time editor and manager on the Copy Desk at Dow Jones Newswires, will be joining the Resources reporting team as Deputy Managing Editor.

Paul comes at a time when traders, policy makers, company executives and individual investors are paying increasing attention to commodities—and the price volatility, political tensions and sheer amount of money that mark them. He will help shape coverage of gold and industrial metals, energy, agricultural and exotic commodities, with an emphasis on breaking news by bringing significant market developments to light and by keeping a close eye on companies along the entire supply chain.

Paul brings with him the dedication and drive to maintain rigorous reporting standards and excellence in writing across all platforms, from the first flash headline on DJN to the four-star edition of The Wall Street Journal.

He joined Dow Jones in 1997 as a news editor for “Rolling Thunder,” an early Newswires Internet project. He moved to Newswires’ Global Desk (a predecessor to the Copy Desk) as a copy editor in 1998, becoming a news editor in 2000 and deputy managing editor in 2007. He has focused on helping the desk enhance the clarity and conciseness of copy, while ensuring credibility, in a real-time news environment. Over the past year, he has applied his skills as an editor on stints with The Hub, FXTrader and the Resources team.

Prior to joining Dow Jones, Paul received a B.A. in English from UCLA and began his career at the Los Angeles Times.  He also worked for KCET, Los Angeles’ PBS station.

An unrepentant baseball geek, Paul also is a competitive swimmer, occasional triathlete and inveterate reader of history.

He will begin with us in mid-September and report to me. He’s based in New York.
