New biz magazine launching in Delaware

A publishing company with titles in locations north of New York and west of Philadelphia is planning a new business magazine called Delaware Business Times.

Joe DiStefano of the Philadelphia Inquirer writes, “Waltz has hired former Gannett Corp. vp/digital media Michael J. Mika (ex boss at of Delaware Online, the Wilmington News Journal site) as executive editor; ad boss is Avie Silver, who worked most recently at Mobius New Media after establishing the News Journal’s former Spark! bands-restaurants-bars weekly.

“Publisher Waltz, over bourbon at Wilmington’s University and Whist Club, told me the Times is in the process of hiring five reporters — a bigger business news staff than the daily News Journal has fielded in recent years. It will post developing business news in Delaware, the nation’s “corporate capital,” online and via social media, and plans a print edition biweekly, then weekly.

“UPDATE: James McDonald, President of two-year-old Region’s Business, tells me that publication, started with funding from nonagenarian investor Raymond Perelman, has been putting out a monthly magazine since February and plans a website relaunch and daily updates Sept. 15.”
