Assistant business editor Paul Mattson has been promoted to business editor of the Florida Times-Union newspaper in Jacksonville, according to a story in Sunday’s paper.
Mattson replaces Jennifer Merritt, who left to go to Money magazine.
The story stated, “A Michigan native, Mattson received a bachelor of applied arts degree from Central Michigan University, where he majored in journalism.
“‘I know Paul will do a great job as business editor for us,’ said Times-Union editor Pat Yack. ‘He is a seasoned and capable journalist who understands the importance and value of our providing a compelling local business report.’
“Leading the section will allow Mattson to build upon the successes of the past, the new business editor said.
“‘It’s been getting better every year,’ Mattson said about the section that debuted as a stand-alone section the year he started working for it. ‘My goal would be to keep the momentum going.’
“Other plans include creating a more robust online presence for the section, and increasing the amount of dialogue with the local business community.”
