New biz editor in Dayton

Mary Irby-Jones is the new business editor of the Dayton Daily News in Ohio, directing the newspaper’s coverage of business in the Miami Valley, according to a short story in Sunday’s paper.

Irby-Jones served most recently as a senior editor for the Statesman Journal in Salem, Ore.

She was a copy desk editor for the Dayton Daily News from 1997 to 2001. She left to join the Montgomery Advertiser in Montgomery, Ala., serving there as assistant features editor and as business and state government editor.

Irby-Jones is from Montrose, Miss. She graduated in 1988 from the University of Mississippi. She lives in Kettering with her son, Colton.

Irby-Jones succeeds Jim Dillon, who is now local news editor for the Dayton Daily News.
