New biz editor at Rochester paper

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle named Steve Sink, a former business editor at Newsday, as its new business editor. He had been an assistant metro editor at the paper.

He replaces Ellen Rosen, who is now with the Rochester Business Alliance.

Staff writer Greg Livadas wrote, “At Newsday, Sink directed coverage of an economy transitioning from one dominated by manufacturers to one based on service industries. His staff won numerous awards.

“‘There is no bigger story than the economy,’ he said. ‘I’m excited about the opportunity to help shape business coverage at a time when the regional economy is undergoing tremendous change. I welcome ideas from our readers about what they’d like to see us cover, in print or on the Web.’

“Catherine Roberts, who was deputy business editor, is now editor of Weekend magazine and entertainment coverage. She replaces Maidstone Mulenga, who was named deputy business editor.

“‘Steve’s experience at the Miami Herald and Newsday is virtually unmatched among business editors at newspapers of our size. However, his work on our metro desk shows a sensitivity to the importance of quality journalism at all levels, including smaller stories emerging from neighborhoods,’ said Karen Magnuson, Democrat and Chronicle editor and vice president of news.
