Veteran business journalist John P. McDermott has been promoted to business editor of The Charleston Post and Courier, according to a story in Monday’s paper.
The story noted, “In his role overseeing the daily and Sunday business sections, as well as Monday’s Business Review, McDermott’s focus will be on developing and leading a team of reporters with Michael Buettner, assistant business editor, to deliver the most authoritative, timely and topical business coverage in the Lowcountry.
“He said he also plans to elevate the business section’s profile in the state’s most dynamic region, one that is undergoing swift economic and demographic changes.
“‘The Post and Courier is determined to be South Carolina’s best source for business news, with John leading an excellent business reporting team,’ said Steve Mullins, managing editor. ‘John has earned respect in the business community for being fair, accurate, thorough and accessible. His knowledge of the Lowcountry is second to none. These are only a few of the remarkable traits he brings to the job of business editor.’
“McDermott started his journalism career in 1991, and for the past 12 years was a senior business reporter with The Post and Courier. His most recent areas of coverage were real estate, economic development and the maritime industry.”
