Karen Mracek has joined the Des Moines Register as an assistant business editor.

Mracek had previously been editor of the Edge Business Journal, a monthly magazine that focused on the tech corridor in Iowa.

Previously, she was a business reporter for the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, covering small business, retail and tourism. Her work at the Star included a weekly small business column and editing an annual section highlighting the area’s largest employers.

Mracek earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration – majoring in international economics – from the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida in 2000. She has lived in Ohio, Virginia, California, Florida, Arizona and Washington D.C. and Ames, Iowa.

Lynn Hicks is the executive business editor at the Register.
