Nashville paper cuts standalone business section

The Tennessean, the daily newspaper in Nashville, is cutting its standalone business section during the week.

Editor Mark Silverman writes, “We will not reduce the amount of coverage devoted to local news or local business issues. Some national business coverage will be trimmed and a few business columns will be placed on hiatus. We will continue to print separate Local and Business sections on Sundays.”

Other metro newspapers that have cut their daily business sections in the past year include the Baltimore Sun, Boston Globe, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Seattle Times, Chicago Tribune, Orange County Register, St. Petersburg Times, Tampa Tribune, The (Raleigh) News & Observer, Denver Post, Cincinnati Enquirer, Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, Reno (Nev.) Gazette-Journal, Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal, Monterey (Calif.) Herald, Palm Beach Post and Akron (Ohio) Beacon-Journal.

However, the Knoxville News-Sentinel, also in Tennessee, said it was keeping its standalone business section.
