Money’s Clark joining EWA as assistant director

Money magazine staffer Kim Clark has been hired as an assistant director of the Education Writers Association.

Clark, a longtime national journalist most recently with Money Magazine, will play a leading role in directing EWA programming on education beyond high school.

“We are thrilled to have a journalist of Kim’s caliber joining our staff,” said EWA Executive Director Caroline Hendrie in a statement. “Her energy and experience will be a huge boon to our efforts to support the important work of our journalist members in newsrooms across the country.”

As a senior writer at Money, Clark’s reporting focused heavily on the financial costs of higher education. She created the formula used by the magazine in its annual ratings of colleges, with an emphasis on evaluating the “return on investment” to students. She also oversaw the creation of the first college search tool designed specifically for low-income students, the Affordable College Finder.

Prior to joining Money in 2011, Clark was a senior writer for U.S. News & World Report for more than a decade, covering not only education but also topics ranging from archaeology in Latin America to the Sydney Olympic Games.

She previously reported for Fortune magazine and The Baltimore Sun. Clark is a graduate of Brown University, and holds a master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
