Americas regional editor Tiffany Wu sent out the following announcement to the Reuters staff:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Greg Mitchell to the role of West Coast Bureau Chief. Based in San Francisco, Greg is joining Reuters from American Lawyer Media, where he was editor in chief of law.com and headed up newsroom innovation and engagement initiatives including the roll-out of new reporter-written topical newsletters.
Before that, Greg was editor in chief of ALM’s San Francisco publication, The Recorder, where he started his career as a web editor and then reporter, covering the state Supreme Court and related judicial and executive branch agencies. In later editing roles, he oversaw The Recorder’s coverage of the legal battle over same-sex marriage, investigations into stock-options backdating, the emergence of Internet privacy litigation and regulation, seismic shifts in the legal services industry, the rise (and sometimes collapse) of global law firms, and the upsizing of Big Tech legal departments.
Greg will join us on April 9 and report to me. He brings to this role a broad and sophisticated understanding of the U.S. technology industry, as well as a strong track record in guiding reporters to produce ambitious and impactful stories on the biggest companies in Silicon Valley. They include exclusives on the Apple-Samsung phone litigation, Uber’s battles with its drivers and would-be regulators, and the lack of diversity among lawyers working at or for Google and Facebook.
Greg is a lifelong Californian who grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a history degree. He and his wife, DeeDee Schroeder, live in San Francisco with their four kids. Greg likes to run, read and watch lots of kids’ soccer, basketball and, lately, lacrosse.
