Mississippi cuts stock listings for local coverage

The Jackson Clarion-Ledger newspaper in Mississippi said in its Sunday paper that it has cut its stock listings, except for local stocks of interest, and will use the space to provide more local business news and information.

Clarion-LedgerWhat is happening is that most of the big metropolitan papers have cut their stock listings earlier this year, and the trend is now moving to smaller cities such as Jackson, Sarasota, Fla., and South Bend, Ind.

A short story stated, “Starting Wednesday, The Clarion-Ledger will begin offering more local news in its business section, including expanding the People in Business feature and noting other achievements from awards to professional accolades.

“The newspaper will be adding columnists and starting a new feature in which we find out more about the business people in our community.

“The paper also will begin a business calendar to let the community know about upcoming events, workshops, professional associations’ meetings and conventions and job fairs.”
