Milwaukee daily cuts stock listings, standalone sections

Chuck Melvin, the assistant managing editor for business at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, writes about changes occurring in its business section.

Melvin writes, “With far fewer people relying on print newspapers for stock and mutual fund information, we are reducing our Sunday financial tables to include only local companies and widely held stocks — providing readers with a snapshot of the market and the performance of the companies that matter most to Wisconsin.

“This will allow us to make the best available use of our newsprint and expertise, maintaining the state’s biggest and most experienced business news staff so we can continue delivering local and regional business news in the context of national and global developments. Our focus will remain local, tapping the knowledge of local business, financial and investment industry sources.  We intend to provide Wisconsin businesses, investors and consumers with the in-depth information they need to succeed in their business and personal financial lives.

“On Wednesdays and Sundays, the Business section will maintain a section front. On other weekdays, Business will be found inside the A section. And, alas, we’ve discontinued Dilbert.”
